The FAQs

When is your next book coming out?

At present I have several books underway, including:

  • Go-Go Gorillas (illustrated by Eleanor Taylor; Simon & Schuster, 2009)
  • Sea of the Dead (adventure novel; Simon & Schuster, 2009)
  • Under the Mambo Moon (poetry collection; Charlesbridge, 2009)

Do your kids often help you with your books?

Yes!  Kyle and Ryan give me some of my best ideas.  All of my picture books were inspired by one or both of them.

I’ve written a story for children. What should I do next?

Take some time to research children’s book publishers and their submission policies. Read the latest Children’s Writer’s and Illustrator’s Market. Join SCBWI, the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. Be patient. Do your homework. Read. Revise. Persevere!

Will you read my manuscript?

Sorry, no. Between taking care of my kids, working at the library and writing my books, I have very little time left over to do much else! However, if you'd like a professional critique, I highly recommend Bonny Becker, Esther Hershenhorn, and Paula Morrow. Or check with your
SCBWI regional advisor for information about critique groups in your area.

Will you donate one of your books to our school
or fund-raiser?

As much as I love to donate my books to good causes, I’ve already given away all of my extra copies.  But if you would like to purchase one of my books for a fundraiser, I’ll be happy to send you an autographed bookplate for it.  Just send me an email with the details and a mailing address.

Do you have an agent?

Yes, the fabulous Barry Goldblatt.  Please visit his website for submission guidelines and additional information about his agency.
